Diabetes: FAQ Answered!
Alright, let's cut to the chase.
Over the 18+ years of having Diabetes. Everytime I mention I have it, I'm usually bombared with numerous questions, that Diabetics may feel are absolutely retarded.
But rest assured, they are not. The difference between what a Diabetic is or can be or can do has wayyyyyy too little knowedlge being educated to the general public.
So allow me to answer some of these Frequently Asked Questions:
-
You're diabetic? But you're not fat?
Being fat or not doesn't mean you have or do not have diabetes. Of course Type 2 may seem more obvious as it often occurs due to poor diets and lifestyles which can obesity. And might I mention... not even obesity, even if you're just wayyy fatter than you've ever been in your life, you can get into pre-diabetes (Type 2) phase.
I am not fat because my autoimmune chronic illness hit me as a child, and this is a genetic issue rather than a lifestyle issue. So lets say I eat so humbly like Buddha or what not, Diabetes is still gonna screw my Pancreas over. :D Yipeeeee -
Can you eat that?
Eats it Do you see me not eating that? AmI dying yet? No. YES I can eat that. YES I can eat chocolate. YES I can have that candy. YES I can eat that icecream. STOP BEING MY MOM. Breaths alright... so basically I can. Seriously, I can. All I have to do is take more insulin for w.e I am eating.
Obviously I should eat all this straight up SUGAR stuff in moderation, but I ain't gonna chug a chocolate down every 5 minutes for... w.e the sake it is.
But in the end YES I CAN. -
Does that hurt? - (credits to Alyssa)
Pricking my fingers, or taking a needle shot... "No it tickles... -.-". Yeah seriously people, why don't you try pricking yourself or shooting yourself every.single.day.for.the.rest.of.your.life... then you tell me if that bothers you anymore. -
Is everything okay?
I somehow get asked this everytime I happen to be in need to visit my Diabetics doctor. Thank you for your concern, really. But its a routine thing. Just imagine it as.. you need to go to the bathroom every day. I need to go to the Diabetic doctor every month or so for checkup. Its just as simple as that. I'm not dying (but aren't we all), and everything is absolutely tip top. -
How do you deal with it?
Well.. if I don't deal with it, then I die. So.. I just have to? lol -
You ate a lot of sugars didn't you?
Might I mention, that this questions irritates me the MOST. Yes I ate 20 lollipops daily and I got diabetes that way. WTF people. CLARIFYING AGAIN, Type 2 is due to an unhealthy lifestyle, Type 1 is due to genetics.
Period. -
I heard ___________ heals diabetes?
Damn, then what have I been doing wasting my money getting medication to keep this curable disease alive? NOTHING cures diabetes, you're stuck with it for life once you are diagnosed with it. Technology is advancing extremely quickly so we can hope that a cure may be developed during our life time. -
When your blood sugar goes low, how much insulin do you take? - (Credits to Susan)
First of all... we generally are unable to have any patience with you during our low blood sugar. GET ME A DAMN JUICE OR COKE OR CANDY OR W.E BECAUSE LOW MEANS I DUN HAVE ENOUGH SUGAR!!! And the fact that you feel we need insulin makes me wanna say... STUDY ENGLISH ON WHAT "LOW" MEANS!! totally losing my cool here lol -
When will she (you) grow out of it? - (Credits to Alyssa)
Wow.. this question would irritate me to infinity and beyond. Alyssa from my previous Type 1 Diabetes group mentioned that this was asked to about her daughter who has Type 1. Seriously people... just.. how... and... if it was as easy as growing out of, why the hell would we still have Type 1 diabetes in this world. -
What were your symptoms before you got diagnosed? - (Credits to Lydia)
Well... the only symptoms I can still recall was. Being consistently thirsty, tired, non-stop bathroom runs, throwing up everything I ate, and just losing more and more weight. I was probably on majorly high blood sugar for maybe half a year and then I almost died. So... thats all I can remember. -
What caused it? Were you born with it? - (Credits to Lydia)
A general and good question. I was not born with it. My doctor's diagnoses states that I had a virus mutation. Probably caught a regular cold and then due to my genetics and environment it mutated into Diabetes. Almost died of it too... -
Comment: oh I couldn't inject myself - (Credits to Glenys)
Yea well.... great..? Well if you don't you'de die... -
What do I do in an emergency. Can you write that down for me? - (Credits to Alyssa)
Credits to all those who ask this question! Usually our low blood sugar symptoms are cold sweat, shaky, impatient, unableto focus, and realy hungry. Be aware alot of times diabetes hasa diabetic card on them mentioming where their sugars are located or who to call for direct help. -
