Implantable "Tea-bags"
Care for a tea, Sir? Madam?
Cause this tea can definitely help a Diabetic.
What am I talking about? I'm talking about the recently funded and researched project known as the "implantable tea bags". They can detect glucose levels and be able to release insulin into the diabetic's body.
That is quite a development within the medical advancements for Diabetes. The original idea behind this project is naturally aimed more for children with Type 1 Diabetes. Many of whom are still learning and developing the skills in handling their glucose properly. As much as ketoacidosis or hyperglycemia is naturally a bad thing to be having that is built up, but same goes for hypoglycemia, where the possibility of seizures, coma, and such can cause a much faster path to death.
But with such a development of these implantable tea bags, the need for blood pricks and insulin injections are less needed. Instead, an alternative can be used to be on the watch out of your child throughout the day.
In my opinion, this is indeed quite a advancement. The only thing I fear, in my experience of growing up with diabetes, is how exactly this implant will be planned into a child's life. Often children grow on their habits to how they handle their blood sugar during these periods. And if they become use to the implant providing such an easy overwatching method... will they ignore the need of many manual things that should be learned incase anything goes haywire during your glucose control?
An article to the latest development of the implant is here: https://dlife.com/implantable-tea-bag-in-development-releases-insulin-for-children-with-diabetes/
But what's your take on this device?
