T1D & T2D : Differences

T1D & T2D : Differences

There is actually quite a difference between the two. And as a Type 1, I’ve been falsely accused of many things before which I will cover up to right away!

Anyhow, lets get right to it:

Type 1:
As mentioned, yes I am Type 1 and hence definitely have a lot more accurate knowledge on this type. A good majority of Type 1 starts before birth, during childhood, or anytime basically before adulthood.

Most of which I know of is during childhood. It could be that one of your parents has diabetes as well.

And people please don’t accuse us of.. “oh you must have eaten too much sugar” or what not… Because unless you are a diabetic doctor, or you actually know our diagnostics.. then in the most polite way possible, I will have to ask you to shut it.

It’s odd though.. that although in my family’s knowledge, or our family tree knowledge we had no traces of Diabetes. Hence why my doctor claims it may have been due to a virus mutation.

Type 2:
Much more common in elders or adults. Often due to two possible reasons, or even both combined which is family genetics and also poor control of health conditions. Type 2 wasn’t as common as it is now, due to the accessible fast foods we have.. the less time we have to cook.. or how much we work we have that we’re just not handling what we eat as well as we should...

Type 2 is now considered a 21st century illness, as a lot of how we eat is extremely unhealthy for us.

Difference:
Other than origins of the types of diabetes. The difference is the medication required for each. For me as a Type 1, my immune system basically kills and attacks all cells that produces insulin.. Hence I’m required to inject insulin for the rest of my life

Type 2 on the other hand, often still has the ability to produce insulin but not as efficiently. However, the reason why their medication is not injections but oral medications, I am not clear about. I do have to apologize as I am practically completely unaware of the conditions these medications should be taken by. Would be great is anyone could comment in on any details!~

Although, it is known and for Type 2s it is possible for them to eventually develop into Type 1s. Therefore also transitioning into the need of injecting insulin later on.

I believe I mentioned.. I wanted to be brief… Not sure if I was 😛 But comment in if I’ve missed anything you’d like to know about :)! (oh! And definitely correct me or add in on anything.)
